Week 42 Market Outlook: U.S. Inflation, Retail Sales, and the Fed Take Center Stage

Week of October 12–17, 2026

We are now moving into Week 42 of the 2026 trading year and another important October trading week. While we did not hold a live VIP session this week, that does not mean we enter the market without a roadmap. If anything, this is one of those weeks where preparation becomes even more important because the calendar is packed with events capable of producing very different market reactions depending on what the details actually reveal.

The biggest focus is undoubtedly U.S. inflation. Wednesday brings the Consumer Price Index, followed on Thursday by producer inflation and U.S. retail sales. Later in the week, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh also has an important opportunity to speak before the Federal Reserve moves closer to its quiet period ahead of the October 27–28 policy meeting.

Our reference outlook places Wednesday’s CPI at the center of this week’s market story. But the inflation number itself may only be part of what matters. The reaction in the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield could provide another important clue as to whether the market’s initial response has enough support to continue or whether the first move begins to reverse.

What makes this particularly interesting is that the inflation report could potentially tell us two different stories at the same time. Headline inflation may remain under pressure from higher energy costs, while underlying or “core” inflation may paint a comparatively calmer picture. If those two readings send conflicting messages, the market may have to decide which part of the report matters more for the Federal Reserve and the broader interest-rate outlook.

That is exactly the type of environment where the first reaction does not necessarily become the final direction.

Rather than reacting immediately to the headline number, this week gives us another opportunity to apply what we have been developing throughout our VIP sessions: understand the context first, observe how the broader market responds, and allow confirmation—not excitement—to guide the next step.

A New Step in Our Weekly Review Process

Starting with this week’s forecast, we are also adding something important to our weekly process.

Before looking ahead, we will briefly review how the previous week’s outlook performed against what actually happened in the market.

This is not about taking a victory lap when a scenario works, nor is it about expecting every outlook to be correct. Markets are constantly responding to new information, changing expectations, and developments that cannot always be anticipated beforehand.

Instead, the purpose is to make our weekly forecasts more useful as an ongoing learning tool.

We want to look back and ask: Which expectations were supported by the market? Which scenarios did not develop as anticipated? What changed during the week? Was there new information that altered the original outlook? And, most importantly, what can we carry forward into the next analysis?

By reviewing both the forecast and the outcome, we can continuously refine the way we interpret market information and prepare for future conditions.

Your Fundamental Map for Week 42

Even without a live webinar this week, consider this VIP Weekly Market Forecast your fundamental map for the days ahead.

Use it together with the technical analysis, market structure, levels, risk-management principles, and lessons we have covered throughout our previous VIP sessions. Identify which currencies currently have the clearest underlying stories, but also know which upcoming events have the potential to challenge or invalidate your existing view.

This week, in particular, requires patience.

A major economic release can produce an immediate market reaction, but the initial move does not always tell the complete story. How Treasury yields respond, how the U.S. dollar behaves afterward, and how related markets absorb the new information may help provide a clearer picture once the initial volatility settles.

The objective is not to predict every movement before it happens. It is to understand the environment, recognize the events capable of changing the market narrative, and prepare for several reasonable possibilities before the market makes its decision.

Allow confirmation—not excitement—to determine when and how you participate.

Before we map out this week’s key economic indicators, central-bank developments, currency outlooks, and market scenarios, let’s begin with something new: a brief review of last week’s forecast and what the market ultimately taught us.

Keep the Context in Mind as You Review

One of the most important habits we continue building inside VIP is learning how to review an analysis within the context in which it was originally made. The charts, observations, scenarios, price levels, and market expectations included in the recap reflect what was happening at or around the time of the live session.

The market, however, continues to move after every class. By the time you revisit this material, prices may have changed, new economic information may have been released, expectations may have shifted, or the market may have responded differently from one of the possibilities we originally discussed. That does not make the earlier discussion less useful. In fact, comparing what we anticipated with what eventually happened is an important part of the learning process.

As you review each section, compare the charts and scenarios discussed during the session with the market’s current movement. Consider what has changed since the session, which observations remain relevant, which scenarios the market confirmed or invalidated, whether new information changed the broader context, and how price reacted around the areas we previously discussed.

This allows you to use the recap not simply as a record of what was discussed, but as an opportunity to strengthen the way you analyze how markets develop over time.

Before Applying Anything From the Session

Please remember to independently verify the information before using any part of the session recap in your current market analysis. Double-check all dates and times, especially economic releases, central-bank announcements, and scheduled market events. Confirm the currency pairs and instruments being discussed, review the latest economic calendar for revisions or changes, and compare the charts shown in the recap with the current charts before deciding whether a level or scenario is still relevant.

Also check for any new economic data, geopolitical developments, central-bank commentary, or market-moving information that may have emerged since the session. Reassess the broader market context instead of assuming that an earlier expectation remains valid, and continue applying the risk-management principles, technical lessons, and market-reading process we have discussed throughout our previous VIP sessions.

The purpose of reviewing these materials is not to follow an earlier analysis automatically. It is to understand the reasoning behind the analysis, observe how the market developed afterward, and continue improving the way you prepare for different possibilities.

Markets change. Expectations change. Charts change. What we want to keep strengthening is how we analyze, prepare, and respond when they do.

Continue Building on What We Have Learned

Thank you again to everyone who joined our first VIP live session for September 2026. Your attentiveness, questions, and participation made the discussion even more meaningful, and I hope you continue using these session recaps as part of your ongoing review process.

Go back to the lessons from our previous sessions. Compare what we discussed with what actually happened afterward. Observe how new information changed—or reinforced—the market narrative. Whenever you review a previous chart or scenario, remember that the objective is not simply to determine whether an earlier view was “right” or “wrong.”

The greater value is understanding why the market behaved the way it did, what information changed along the way, and how we can become better prepared the next time a similar environment develops.

That is the process we will continue building together inside GME VIP. We look forward to continuing the discussion with you in our next VIP Class. 🧡
